Disney Cruise Nails 2017

Image
Hello fellow land dwelling friends! We are back from our vacation where we went on another Disney Cruise! We have done a few now and they have been the best trips our family has ever been on. This was our first voyage on one of the classic ships. Can not recommend enough! This was the longest cruise we have done, and I took the most footage ever. It will take me a little bit to sort through it all! I plan on several blog posts and a video. I can't decide whether to divide it up by day or category (food, entertainment, ports, etc) so I'm open to any and all suggestions! I'm starting today with the mani I created and wore the whole time! I was really indecisive about what to do, and therefore waited until the last minute to do these nails and was up entirely too late the night before we left! Once I finally decided on a color palette this is what followed, 2 hours later!

Christmas Mickey and Minnie Mouse nails

Image
Hello! I know it's after Christmas but I still have holiday things to post :) Today I have a mani I did well before Christmas but never got to write about it and post it. I got the idea to do different holiday themes of my most popular mani ever, my Mickey nails! You can see the original post  HERE from 2014   way back from 3 years ago! (don't laugh at them) And then my  Thanksgiving 2016 version here.  Today I have the Christmas version! Christmas Mickey and Minnie nails The polishes I used are: Lighter shimmery red: OPI Innie Minnie Mighty Bow Green: OPI Jade is the New Black Darker red glitter jelly: OPI Underneath the Mistletoe OPI Black Onyx   (black) and OPI Alpine Snow   (white under the buttons) Red Texture: OPI Magazine Cover Mouse (which is one of my fav textures and I use all the time!) The Minnie themed polishes are from the OPI Minnie Couture collection that came out a few years ago, I only have a few from that coll...

Disney's Moana inspired nail art with stamping!

Image
Hello and Happy Thanksgiving week! Who's excited about Moana coming out tomorrow??? We were planning on seeing it tomorrow but now we will have to wait a few days. We love all things Hawaii and Disney so when we first heard about this movie ages ago we were so pumped! It looks really amazing and I hope it does well at the box office! I got the idea last night after I saw something about Moana on the internet and remembered my new Moyou Tourist plate I just purchased...it's Hawaii themed. There was so many I wanted, including an Australian one, but a girl has to stop somewhere loading her cart ;) I sketched out some ideas and got to work! We all know the main reason I am getting into stamping is that I can not free hand anything. The little bit I used to be able to do I can't anymore. So there was no spelling out her name or painting her face. But there was plenty on the plate to work with! This is what it looks like....heart eyes! Here ar...

Thanksgiving 2016: Thanksgiving Disney nails!

Image
Hey guys! Today I decided to do a little throwback to one of my most popular mani's. No, definitely my most popular and most reposted/pinned I've ever done!  Almost 3 years ago I did some Disney-themed nails with out character's actual faces, which I prefer so  far because I have zero drawing skills! I had no idea it would take off like it did. They were actually the first mani I did to kick off the relaunch of my blog!! You can see that post HERE  :) I thought about how I could take the same design and make it Thanksgiving themed! I wish I would have thought to do that with Halloween! I'm going to try to do it for each major holiday now. It is fun! This would be a great look to rock if you will be at the Parks or on a Cruise for Thanksgiving! I wish we were!!!! Here are my original nails! So much has changed since then! I have a lot of pictures of this mani so prepare for some spam ;) The method could not be more simple: I started with a ...

Rapunzel-Inspired nails using Zoya Mattes, plus a taped tutorial

Image
Hey guys! (I start every blog like that, don't I?) Today I have something a little different. When I swatched the new, re-released Zoya Matte Velvet collection, which you can see here!  I was completely amazed at how fast they dried. Like, amazed.  For some it can be an issue because if you go over the same spot twice it can cause the polish to drag a little, but if you work quick enough you won't have that problem. Shortly after I swatched them and then wore Harlow for the rest of the week (for a wear test, post on that coming soon!) I had an idea. What if I could film a real-time video showing how fast they dry and how quickly you can tape over them to create a cute design? Thus my Rapunzel inspired mani was born!      A few more things about this since I don't talk in my videos....yet. :) -I started my stopwatch at the beginning, with bare nails. I did not stop it until I was done. -I only did 4 nails for this tutorial. My total time was 18 minutes...

Princess Week-Cinderella Inspired Nails plus tutorial!

Image
Hey guys!!! It's Cinderella's turn! You can see my nails I did last year when I ran the Princess Half   here .  This year I wanted to do something different. To me Cinderella is very ethereal, fluffy, sparkly, and dainty. I knew I wanted to do a variation on a french manicure for her, but I was doubtful because I am in the process of growing out a broken corner on my middle finger. I waited a week, filed them down as short as I could, and hoped for the best. Here is proof, that, even with super nubs you can rock a french!   I took pics as I did this for a tutorial, but forgot to take a pic of the last step, then decided it was unnecessary because I can just talk you through it :) shade Apply 2 coats of a glittery base coat. I chose China Glaze Glistening snow. I did not use anything under it. You can use any sort of glittery base for it, Fairy Dust would work also, even with out a base coat because we are going for a delicate look here. When it's dry, ...

Princess Week-Ariel inspired nails plus tutorial!

Image
Last up for this round is Ariel! Sooooo....... about Ariel nails.....there's been quite the internet-controversy it seems about Ariel nails lately....namely a specific design and who did it first and stealing and alllll that. I knew I wanted to do Ariel because she's one of my favorites, but I had to come up with a design that was suuuuuuuuupeeeerrrr far away from that. Not an easy task! This is what I came up with. Yes, that's a dinglehopper on my ring finger. :) shade I was going to use a nude color as a base (namely OPI Glints of Glinda because it matches my skin exactly) but then I a)ran out of time to let it dry before taping and b)realized all the white parts of my nail would be covered anyway. So, I used used a clear basecoat. Use striping tape (or cut skinny pieces of scotch/mask/painters tape) and place them as shown. Make sure if you do have a base coat down it's super dry. Also make sure the tape is well stuck down. Use the brush or dab some o...

Princess Week-Beauty and the Beast Belle-Inspired Nails plus tutorial!

Image
Next up in my week of  Disney Princesses is Belle!  Originally I was going to use my craft scissors and cut out tape with a scalloped edge and use 2 different yellows to represent her dress. But, I haven't had a whole lot of time lately and whenever I use tape I'm so paranoid that I wait several hours before I tape and paint again. So, I tried to figure out a way to mimick what I had in my head with out tape. The answer? DOTS! WHOOP! Belle nails with Zoya Chyna Guys, these are super simple. All you need is 2 different shades of yellow!  1. Start with 3 yellow nails and one white. I used the new OPI I Just Can't Cope-acabana, I swear it's my new go to yellow! Let's call this the "base yellow." 2. Dab some of each yellow on a separate sheet of paper. I like to use glossy type paper (think post card or junk mail) so the paper doesn't absorb the polish. 3. With a dotting tool or a toothpick, or back end of a needle or whatever , make a row ...

Princess Week-Snow White Nails plus tutorial!

Image
Hey guys! It's Princess Week! The Disney Princess Half Marathon is this weekend at Disney World. I ran this race last year and it was sooooooo fun. I'm not this year but I  have had such a positive response to my Cinderella nails I did last year that matched my home-made (yep!) Cinderella running costume on Pinterest that I wanted to do a whole week of easy to do, princess insprired nails. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm no artist. So you won't be seeing any faces or elaborate detail on my nails. I try to take from the major points of the character and interpret them into an easy to do design! Let me know what you think! This week I'll be featuring Snow White, Belle, Ariel, and Cinderella. Cinderella is my fav, obviously, followed by Belle and Ariel. I'm a classics girl! Snow gets a ticket because she's and icon and the first Disney Princess :) If you guys like these and want me to do more leave a comment and maybe later in the yea...

Cinderella Nails plus Disney Princess Half Marathon Nails!

Image
Hi! Forgive the old pic, and it's the only one I have left! I painted my nails to match my Cinderella Costume. Light blue, with Essie Beyond Cozy on my ring finger and I drew a little slipper on my first finger out of Beyond Cozy. Early days of nail art indeed! Disney Princess Half Marathon Medal

Tinkerbell nails for Disney's Tinkerbell Half Marathon

Image
Hey guys! With the Tinkerbell Half Marathon this weekend at Disney Land, I really wanted to do Tink nails. I'm not running this race this year but I hope to in the next few years! I knew exactly which polish to use too....Sweet on Pete from last year's Nicole by OPI Tinkerbell Collection! This is the exact color of Tink's dress (dress? outfit? onsie?)  Nicole by OPI Sweet on Pete On top of SOP I added a layer of Color Club Femme Fatale (from the bargain bin at BBB, for 50c, holla!) and a layer of Revlon Heavenly. Guys, I really wanted to use Fairy Dust, I really did, but these other 2 just felt more iridescent like her wings. Kills me that I didn't use it though! For the accent nail, I painted an outline of her wings with The Most Awesome Silver Ever, and then dabbed in more of Heavenly. I did add one of the little moons from Pixie Glitter, but you can't really see it! The lineup: NOPI Pixie Glitter, Sweet on Pete, CC Femme Fatale, Revlon Heavenly, OPI ...

When you wish upon a star...Mickey & Minnie Mouse nail art

Image
Hey guys! I have been wanting to do "Disney" nails for a while! With the WDW marathon happening this weekend, now was my chance! I'm not running in it but I wish I was  :(  I prefer symbolic references to characters over actual faces, you will see that a lot in my work! I also, after much deliberation, decided to add some small Mickey ears. Here are the polishes I used: from L: OPI Thrill of Brazil (my new favorite red! This will be my go to from now on! It is a one-coater for me!), China Glaze Angel Wings, Sally hanson white and black, Zoya Storm, and for the star I fished out one from the Revlon Celestial FX. It's good to have on hand! It has holographic stars, crescent moons and diamond shapes.    Method on this was pretty simple...polka dots and glitter! For the Mickey nail I painted the whole nail red and topped with Seche vite. After a few hours I went back and taped the bottom and painted over black. Add some dots and presto! For my...
